Things to know before you go. You cannot enter Hotel Tassel, as it is a private residence. There are information boards and plaques about the building outside, accessible from the street. Remember to take an umbrella or raincoat—this is Brussels, and Hotel Tassel is an outdoor landmark. The Horta Museum is well worth a visit to see and learn.

It was commissioned by Emile Tassel, a professor of descriptive geometry at the University of Brussels and collaborator with the firm, Solvay (for whom Horta would later construct the Hotel Solvay between 1895 and 1900). Once completed, the architect worked for a number of years on its furniture.

The narrow, symmetrical front facade. Built for the Belgian scientist Edmond Tassel, this building is considered by some scholars to be the first Art Nouveau building in Brussels.
