'Windrush' is a Modern shrub rose which produces semi-double, lovely soft yellow flowers. In general, roses are a large group of flowering shrubs, most with showy flowers that are single-petalled to fully double petalled. Leaves are typically medium to dark green, glossy, and ovate, with finely toothed edges.

The term 'Windrush Generation' is used to refer to the people who moved to the United Kingdom between 1948 and 1972 from the Caribbean. After the Second World War, Britain needed to rebuild the country and the economy. But a labour shortage meant there were not enough people to do the jobs that needed doing.

The Windrush was originally a German passenger liner called the Monte Rosa. Launched in 1930, the Monte Rosa took travellers to South America before becoming a vehicle for spreading Nazi ideology after they came to power in 1933. The pleasure cruiser hosted multiple party gatherings, most notably in Argentina and London.

The Windrush was built to carry migrants - but definitely not from the Caribbean to England. It was launched in 1930 as German passenger ship Monte Rosa, built to be a symbol of national pride. In the early 1930s it carried migrants from Depression-era Germany to a better life in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.

Light yellow. Strong fragrance. Semi-double (9-16 petals) bloom form. Occasional repeat later in the season. Height: up to 4¼' (up to 130cm). Width: up to 4' (up to 120cm). USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining.

HMT Empire Windrush, originally MV Monte Rosa, was a passenger liner and cruise ship launched in Germany in 1930. She was owned and operated by the German shipping line Hamburg Süd in the 1930s under the name Monte Rosa. During World War II she was operated by the German navy as a troopship.
