Those following my build thread might recall I used Daniel Stern's setup for aiming the E30 headlights for RHD. The results were impressive, so the guy knows his stuff. Daniel mentioned about swapping out the regular P21W (BA15s) globe used in our tail lights for a particular globe from a specific manufacturer.

When voltage drops to 90 percent (11.88v), bulb output is only 67 percent of what it should be. And when voltage drops to 85 percent (11.22v), bulb output is a paltry 53 percent of normal!

In the US, the nominal aim for headlamps with this type of beam pattern at *all* mounting heights is 0.7%. These might seem like picky differences, but the effect upon seeing distance is very large.

There are some good tips to doing this on the Daniel Stern Lighting web site. An alternative is to use Ring Xenon Plus 60/55 lamps, which provide approximately 30% more light but generate no extra heat and have the same current rating. They are available from Demon Tweeks. They also sell PIAA Super White lamps which have higher claimed light.
